About Nissan Cedric
The Nissan Cedric was a long-running Japanese executive car introduced in 1960. Developed after Nissan’s technical partnership with Britain’s Austin Motor, it became one of the brand’s principal large passenger cars and helped establish Nissan in the domestic luxury-sedan market.
Ten main generations were produced, beginning with the 30 series and continuing through the 130, 230, 330, 430, Y30, Y31, Y32, Y33 and Y34. The regular passenger-car line ended in 2004, when the Cedric and its closely related Gloria counterpart were succeeded by the Nissan Fuga. The Y31 business model remained available for commercial use for several more years.
The Cedric was primarily a four-door, rear-wheel-drive sedan, although selected generations also included hardtops, wagons and vans. Engine choices varied widely by period and market, including four-cylinder, six-cylinder, V6, diesel, turbocharged and LPG units. From the 230 generation, the Cedric shared much of its engineering with the Gloria while retaining separate styling and trim identities.
Positioned above Nissan’s smaller family cars, the Cedric served private owners, corporate fleets, taxi operators and government agencies. It is known for spacious cabins, comfortable ride quality, formal styling and durable mechanical design, while sportier Gran Turismo versions added stronger performance and more driver-focused equipment.
