About Nissan Cabstar
The Nissan Cabstar is a compact cab-over light truck designed mainly for urban delivery, construction, maintenance and specialist commercial work. The name first appeared in Japan in 1968 on a Datsun truck. From 1982, related models were called Atlas in Japan, while Cabstar continued as an export name, particularly in Europe.
Several generations were sold under the Cabstar badge, with specifications and launch dates varying by market. Important series include the F22, the F23 introduced during the 1990s, and the F24 launched in Europe in 2006. The F24 was developed by Nissan teams in Japan and Spain and manufactured at Nissan’s Ávila plant.
Cabstar models were commonly offered as chassis cabs for fitting purpose-built bodies. Depending on the version, choices included single or double cabs, different wheelbases, single or twin rear wheels, and gross vehicle weights reaching 4.5 tonnes. Dropside, tipper, box, refrigerated and other conversions served a wide range of operators. Diesel engines and rear-wheel drive were typical.
Within Nissan’s commercial range, the Cabstar occupied the space between large vans and heavier trucks. Its cab-over layout provided a compact overall length, good visibility and useful chassis space. It became known for payload efficiency, manoeuvrability and body-conversion flexibility. From 2014, the European model was marketed as the NT400 Cabstar.
