About Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima is a midsize four-door sedan introduced for the 1993 model year. Developed chiefly for North American buyers, it became one of Nissan’s core volume passenger cars and has been built in the United States throughout its production life. Current manufacturing takes place at Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi plant. Across six generations, the Altima has evolved from a relatively compact family car into a full midsize sedan.

The sixth generation arrived for 2019 and retains conventional three-box sedan packaging. The 2026 model uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a continuously variable transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is available. Recent versions include comfort-focused and sport-themed trims, plus appearance and equipment packages. Earlier generations also offered V6 engines, a petrol-electric hybrid and a two-door Altima Coupe.

Within Nissan’s passenger-car range, the Altima serves as a larger mainstream sedan focused on daily usability. It is known for its spacious cabin, comfortable ride, useful fuel economy and wide availability of driver-assistance and connectivity features. Sport-oriented versions add firmer suspension and distinctive styling, while all-wheel-drive models provide an uncommon option in the mainstream midsize-sedan class.
