About Mitsubishi Tredia
The Mitsubishi Tredia was a four-door sedan introduced in 1982 alongside the related Cordia coupe. It formed part of Mitsubishi’s early expansion into front-wheel-drive passenger cars, complementing the Mirage, Lancer and Galant ranges. The design combined a roomy cabin with compact exterior dimensions and relatively low weight. Its wedge-shaped body and flush detailing reflected the aerodynamic priorities of the early 1980s.
The Tredia remained a single-generation model throughout the 1980s. Specifications varied by market, with 1.4-, 1.6- and 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engines among the main choices. A turbocharged 1.6-litre version provided a more performance-focused option. Available transmissions included conventional automatics and Mitsubishi’s two-range Super Shift manual, a distinctive system also used in the Mirage series.
Within Mitsubishi’s line-up, the Tredia served as a practical compact family sedan rather than a luxury or specialist model. It was sold in Japan and several export markets, and was one of the original Mitsubishi-branded models offered in the United States in 1982.
