About Mitsubishi Town Box

The Mitsubishi Town Box is a kei-class passenger microvan developed primarily for the Japanese market. Introduced in 1999, it combined the compact dimensions and low running costs of a kei vehicle with a tall, box-shaped body designed to maximise passenger and luggage space. It has traditionally served as the more comfortable, passenger-focused counterpart to the Mitsubishi Minicab Van.

The first generation was a Mitsubishi-built model based on the Minicab platform. It appeared with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, naturally aspirated or turbocharged engines, and several roof and equipment configurations. A short-lived Town Box Wide derivative used a larger 1.1-litre engine, wider bodywork and three-row seating, placing it outside Japan’s kei category. Production of the original Town Box ended in 2011.

The name returned in 2014 on a Mitsubishi-badged version of the Suzuki Every Wagon. A further full redesign followed in 2015, creating the third generation. Later models have focused on turbocharged performance, sliding rear doors, flexible folding seats, high-roof practicality and a choice of two-wheel or four-wheel drive. G and better-equipped G Special versions have formed the core range.

Within Mitsubishi’s lineup, the Town Box sits between conventional kei passenger cars and compact commercial vans. It is best known for its spacious cabin, adaptable load area, easy access and suitability for daily transport, leisure use and carrying bulky equipment.
