About Mitsubishi RVR
The Mitsubishi RVR is a compact recreational vehicle introduced in Japan in 1991. Early models combined elements of a tall wagon, compact MPV and SUV, using a short nose, spacious cabin, flexible rear seating and a sliding rear door. They offered a lighter, more passenger-focused alternative to Mitsubishi’s larger off-road vehicles.
The nameplate has appeared in three main generations. The second generation arrived in 1997 and retained the space-efficient format, with standard RVR and more rugged RVR Sports Gear versions. Earlier variations also included the open-roof RVR Open Gear. Engine, transmission and two- or four-wheel-drive choices varied by model year and market.
The third generation, launched in 2010, changed the RVR into a conventional five-door compact crossover SUV. This model is closely related to vehicles sold as the Mitsubishi ASX and Outlander Sport in other regions. In markets where the RVR name remains in use, it generally sits at the entry end of Mitsubishi’s SUV range, below larger models such as the Outlander.
The RVR is best known for manageable exterior dimensions, practical passenger and cargo space, and the availability of all-wheel drive on many versions. Its role has evolved from an unconventional leisure-oriented vehicle into a straightforward urban crossover with useful everyday versatility.
