About Mitsubishi Pajero Mini
The Mitsubishi Pajero Mini is a compact three-door SUV developed for Japan’s kei-car category. Introduced in December 1994, it brought the upright styling and recreational character of the larger Pajero into a much smaller, more economical format. Production continued until June 2012.
Two generations were produced. The first established the model as a miniature off-road-oriented vehicle with a rigid body, 659 cc four-cylinder engines and available Easy Select part-time four-wheel drive. The second generation arrived in 1998 after Japan revised kei-car size regulations. It gained slightly larger dimensions, a longer wheelbase and Mitsubishi’s RISE impact-safety body structure.
Depending on model year and trim, the Pajero Mini was offered with naturally aspirated or turbocharged petrol engines and in rear-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive form. Four-wheel-drive versions could provide high- and low-range modes for use on loose or difficult surfaces.
Within Mitsubishi’s range, it sat below the larger Pajero models as an urban-friendly recreational vehicle rather than a full-size expedition SUV. It is known for its compact footprint, high driving position, short body and distinctive boxy appearance. These qualities made it practical in crowded Japanese conditions while retaining more all-terrain ability than a typical kei hatchback.
