About Mitsubishi Express

The Mitsubishi Express is a light commercial vehicle nameplate best known in Australia and New Zealand. Introduced in Australia in 1980 as the L300 Express, it was derived from the Mitsubishi Delica and became a familiar van for trades, deliveries and small fleets. Versions included panel vans, window vans and passenger wagons.

From 1986 to 2013, the main Express range used the third-generation Delica platform. Its cab-over design and boxy body prioritised cargo capacity within a compact footprint. A larger WA series, related to the fourth-generation Delica, was sold alongside it from 1994 to 2005.

After seven years away, the Express returned in 2020 as the X82 series. This French-built model was based on the third-generation Renault Trafic and adopted a front-engined, front-wheel-drive layout. Short- and long-wheelbase vans were offered with turbo-diesel engines and manual or dual-clutch automatic transmissions. The model was withdrawn in 2022.

Within Mitsubishi’s lineup, the Express served as the practical van counterpart to the Triton pickup. It is primarily known for usable load space, work-focused packaging and a long presence in the commercial-vehicle market, although design, specifications and body styles differ substantially between generations.
