About Mitsubishi Colt
The Mitsubishi Colt is a long-running small-car nameplate, first used on the rear-engined Colt 600 in 1962. Early Colts included compact saloons and fastbacks that helped establish Mitsubishi in the passenger-car market. Over time, the name became most closely associated with practical hatchbacks.
In Europe, the Colt developed into Mitsubishi’s supermini-class model from 1978. Six European generations were sold through 2014, often sharing engineering with the Mirage family. These cars generally competed as affordable, easy-to-drive alternatives to larger Mitsubishi models, with compact dimensions suited to urban use.
The independently styled generation introduced in 2002 was notable for its tall, space-efficient body. Variations included three- and five-door hatchbacks, the longer Colt Plus in selected Asian markets, the CZC coupé-convertible and performance-oriented Ralliart models. Availability and specifications differed considerably by country.
After a nine-year European absence, a seventh-generation Colt arrived in 2023. This five-door hatchback was developed by Renault, uses the Alliance CMF-B platform and is produced in Turkey, with petrol and full-hybrid versions offered in selected markets. The Colt is chiefly known for sensible packaging, economical powertrains and an accessible position at the smaller end of Mitsubishi’s range.
