About Mitsubishi 380

The Mitsubishi 380 was a large four-door sedan developed for Australia and built in Adelaide from 2005 to 2008. It replaced the long-running Magna and Verada and became Mitsubishi Motors Australia’s final locally manufactured car. Although closely related to the ninth-generation Galant sold in North America, the 380 received extensive Australian engineering and styling changes. It was sold mainly in Australia, with exports to New Zealand.

The 380 comprised one DB generation, divided into Series I, II and III updates rather than complete redesigns. Every version used a 3.8-litre petrol V6 driving the front wheels, paired with a five-speed manual on selected grades or a five-speed automatic. The original range included the base 380, LS, LX, VRX and GT. Later versions adopted ES and SX names alongside VRX and GT, with luxury packs and limited editions including Platinum, ES Sports and Fusion Burst. A dual-fuel LPG option was introduced late in production.

Within Mitsubishi’s line-up, the 380 served as the spacious family and fleet sedan above the Lancer. It competed in Australia’s large-car market, where rear-wheel-drive Ford and Holden models dominated. The 380 is known for its roomy cabin, responsive V6, comfortable ride and solid equipment levels. Its short production run and status as the last Mitsubishi built in Australia also give it historical significance.
