About MINI Paceman
The MINI Paceman is a compact three-door crossover produced from 2013 to 2016. Closely related to the first-generation Countryman, it combined the elevated driving position and larger body of that model with a lower roofline and coupé-like styling. It was built under contract in Graz, Austria, and remained the only Paceman generation.
Designed as a more style-focused alternative to the five-door Countryman, the Paceman had four individual seats and a split-folding rear backrest. Its cabin retained familiar MINI design features, while the wider track, sports suspension and relatively low stance gave it a more road-oriented character than many compact crossovers.
The range differed by market and included Cooper, Cooper S, Cooper D and Cooper SD versions. Front-wheel drive was used on selected models, while MINI’s ALL4 all-wheel-drive system was available on several variants. The John Cooper Works Paceman sat at the top of the range, combining a turbocharged petrol engine, standard ALL4 and performance-focused chassis tuning. Manual and automatic transmissions were offered.
Known for its distinctive proportions, frameless side windows and unusual two-door crossover format, the Paceman occupied a niche position in the MINI line-up. It offered more space and road presence than the conventional MINI hatchback, but prioritised design and individuality over the Countryman’s greater practicality.
