About MINI Convertible
The MINI Convertible is the open-top member of MINI’s core small-car range. Introduced in 2004 after the modern brand’s 2001 relaunch, it combines the Cooper hatchback’s distinctive design and compact proportions with four seats and a folding fabric roof. It is aimed at buyers seeking open-air driving in a car suited mainly to urban and leisure use.
Across four generations, the model has remained closely related to the MINI 3-Door, with structural changes required for its roofless body. Versions have included Cooper, Cooper S and higher-performance John Cooper Works models, although names, engines and equipment vary by market and model year. Special editions and broad colour, roof and trim choices reflect MINI’s focus on personalisation.
The first two generations were built at MINI Plant Oxford, while the third was produced by VDL Nedcar in the Netherlands. Production of the fourth generation returned to Oxford in November 2024 alongside other Cooper models.
Within the MINI lineup, the Convertible is a lifestyle-focused alternative to the 3-Door and 5-Door rather than a separate sports car. It is known for its quick-operating soft top, compact footprint, responsive handling and retro-influenced styling.
