About Mercury Villager
The Mercury Villager was a front-wheel-drive minivan sold for the 1993 through 2002 model years. Developed jointly by Ford and Nissan, it was closely related to the Nissan Quest, with both models assembled in Ohio. Within Mercury’s range, the Villager provided a family-focused alternative to the brand’s sedans and coupes, combining practical packaging with distinctly Mercury styling and trim.
Two generations were produced. The 1993–1998 model used a 3.0-litre V6 and initially had one passenger-side sliding door. It was offered in GS and LS forms, while the distinctive Nautica edition added special colours, badging and interior details. A flexible rear bench that could move along floor tracks was among its notable practical features.
The redesigned 1999–2002 Villager retained front-wheel drive but gained new bodywork, dual sliding rear doors and a larger 3.3-litre V6. The range included standard, Sport and Estate versions, with equipment varying by model year and package.
The Villager was smaller and more car-like than many American vans of its period. It was known for seven-passenger seating, adaptable cabin space, manageable dimensions and a comfortable ride. Production ended after 2002, and Mercury later returned to the minivan market with the larger Monterey.
