About Mercedes-Benz Vito
The Mercedes-Benz Vito is a mid-size van introduced in 1995 and produced primarily at the brand’s plant in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, from which its name is derived. It occupies the commercial range between the smaller Citan and larger Sprinter, while sharing its basic vehicle family with the more passenger-focused V-Class.
Three generations have appeared: the W638 launched in 1995, the W639 introduced in 2003 and the W447 unveiled in 2014. The original front-wheel-drive model established the Vito as a relatively compact working van. Later generations expanded the choice of body lengths, engines and drivetrains, including rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
Depending on market and model year, the range includes panel vans for cargo, crew vans combining seating with load space, and Tourer versions for passenger transport. Battery-electric models have also formed part of the line, beginning with the limited-production Vito E-CELL and followed by the series-production eVito.
The Vito is known for balancing commercial carrying ability with manageable dimensions, flexible configurations and a more car-like driving environment than many traditional vans. It serves trades, delivery fleets, shuttle operators and other professional users seeking a premium-brand alternative in the medium-van class.
