About Mercedes-Benz Vaneo
The Mercedes-Benz Vaneo is a compact high-roof MPV developed for family, leisure and light professional use. Produced in Germany from 2001 to 2005, it carried the W414 series designation and remained a single-generation model. It extended Mercedes-Benz into the emerging compact MPV segment, combining passenger-car features with the space and access associated with a small van.
Its design was closely related to the first-generation A-Class, including front-wheel drive and the brand’s sandwich-floor construction. A tall body, two sliding rear doors and flexible rear seating made the cabin easy to access and configure. Most examples had five seats, while an optional third row increased capacity to seven. Folding or removable rear seats provided a large, practical load area.
Depending on the market, the range included Trend, Family and Ambiente equipment lines. Engine choices comprised 1.6- and 1.9-litre petrol units and 1.7-litre CDI diesels in different power outputs, paired with five-speed manual, automated-clutch or automatic transmissions.
The Vaneo is primarily known for its roomy interior, compact exterior dimensions and versatile seating rather than luxury or performance. Within the Mercedes-Benz range, it offered a more practical alternative to a conventional compact car while remaining smaller and more passenger-focused than the brand’s larger vans.
