About Mercedes-Benz SLC

The Mercedes-Benz SLC of the C107 series was a fixed-roof luxury coupé introduced in 1971 and produced until 1981. Closely related to the R107 SL roadster, it had a wheelbase extended by 360 mm to provide a larger cabin and four full-size seats. It replaced the previous 280 SE coupés and served as Mercedes-Benz’s refined grand tourer, combining sporting styling with greater practicality and long-distance comfort.

Only one C107 generation was built, although its engine range evolved considerably. Major versions included the six-cylinder 280 SLC and the V8-powered 350 SLC, 380 SLC and 450 SLC. The low-volume 450 SLC 5.0, renamed 500 SLC in 1980, was the technical flagship and helped introduce aluminium V8 construction later used more widely by Mercedes-Benz.

The C107 is known for its balanced proportions, frameless side windows, distinctive louvred rear quarter windows and safety-focused engineering shared with the R107. A total of 62,888 examples were produced. It occupied a distinctive position between a sports coupé and a full luxury car before being succeeded by the larger C126 coupés based on the S-Class.
