About Mercedes-Benz MB 100
The Mercedes-Benz MB 100 is a forward-control, front-wheel-drive light commercial vehicle built by Mercedes-Benz España in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Introduced in 1981 and extensively reworked for wider European sale in 1987, it filled the compact end of the brand’s van range below the larger T1. The MB 100 was the roughly one-ton-payload member of the broader MB 100–180 family.
The main European model, series W631, came as a panel van, passenger bus, crew van and pickup. Short- and long-wheelbase bodies, standard or high roofs, and specialist conversions supported uses ranging from delivery work to passenger transport and motorhomes. The best-known version is the MB 100 D, which used a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated diesel engine in European markets. A major update presented in 1991 revised the front styling and other details, but the vehicle remained part of the same basic generation.
Known for simple mechanicals, a practical load area and a wide choice of bodies, the MB 100 was positioned as a functional working vehicle rather than a luxury model. European production ended by 1996 as the Vito took over this part of the Mercedes-Benz line-up. In some Asia-Pacific markets, the MB 100 name later appeared on a distinct Korean-built van related to the SsangYong Istana, so versions can differ substantially by market and year.
