About Mercedes-Benz CLK
The Mercedes-Benz CLK was a premium two-door model produced from 1997 to 2010. Offered as a fixed-roof coupé and a soft-top cabriolet, it combined four-seat practicality with styling influenced by the larger Mercedes-Benz coupés of its era. Within the brand’s range, the CLK provided a more accessible and compact alternative to the flagship CL and SL models while placing greater emphasis on comfort and elegance than a dedicated sports car.
Two generations were built. The first, known by the C208 coupé and A208 cabriolet codes, arrived in the late 1990s. Its successor, the C209/A209, followed from 2002 and introduced updated styling, technology and a roomier cabin. Production dates varied by body style, with the second-generation coupé ending in 2009 and the cabriolet continuing into 2010. The CLK was subsequently replaced in this role by E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet models.
Depending on generation and market, the range included four-cylinder, V6 and V8 petrol engines, along with diesel options in selected regions. Versions extended from comfort-focused models to the CLK 55 AMG and CLK 63 AMG performance variants. The CLK is best known for its pillarless coupé profile, refined rear-wheel-drive character, broad engine choice and balance of everyday usability with traditional Mercedes-Benz luxury.
