The Mercedes-Benz CLA is a compact premium model positioned as an entry point to the brand’s passenger-car range. Introduced in 2013, it combines coupé-inspired styling with four doors, a low roofline and frameless side windows. It sits below the C-Class and has traditionally shared its engineering base with Mercedes-Benz compact models.
Three generations have been produced. The first established the CLA as a style-focused alternative to a conventional compact saloon, while the second arrived in 2019 with more space, updated driver assistance and the MBUX infotainment system. The third generation entered production in 2025, introducing the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture and MB.OS software platform. Earlier generations were primarily built in Kecskemét, Hungary, while production of the latest CLA began in Rastatt, Germany.
The range has included the four-door CLA Coupé and the more versatile CLA Shooting Brake, which adds an estate-style rear body and larger tailgate. Depending on generation and market, versions have used petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid or mild-hybrid powertrains, with front-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Mercedes-AMG variants provide the performance-focused option. The latest generation is offered with fully electric and hybrid powertrains and is known for aerodynamic design, digital cabin technology and a balance of compact dimensions, premium features and everyday usability.
