About Mazda Tribute
The Mazda Tribute is a five-door compact crossover SUV produced from 2000 to 2011. Introduced as a 2001 model in North America, it was one of the first vehicles created through Mazda and Ford’s shared architecture programme. It was closely related to the Ford Escape but featured Mazda-specific styling, chassis tuning, equipment and trim. Production took place in the United States for North America and in Japan and Taiwan for selected international markets.
The range is commonly divided into two generations, although launch dates and specifications differed by region. Early models offered four-cylinder or V6 petrol engines, with front-wheel drive or an optional four-wheel-drive system. A major update for 2005 introduced a newer 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine and revised styling in some markets. The North American second generation arrived for 2008 with a more upright exterior and redesigned cabin. Later versions gained a 2.5-litre four-cylinder and an updated 3.0-litre V6.
Within Mazda’s lineup, the Tribute served as a practical five-seat alternative to passenger cars and larger, more traditional SUVs. It was known for useful passenger and cargo space, straightforward controls, car-based road manners and available all-weather traction. In its later years, it sat alongside the more distinctively styled CX-7 and CX-9 before Mazda shifted fully to its CX-branded crossover range.
