About Mazda Millenia
The Mazda Millenia is a premium four-door sedan produced from 1993 to 2002. It was developed during Mazda’s early-1990s move towards more upmarket vehicles and became one of the brand’s most refined passenger cars. In North America, where it arrived for the 1995 model year, it replaced the 929 as Mazda’s flagship sedan.
The same model was sold under several names. It debuted as the Eunos 800 in Japan and Australia and as the Xedos 9 in Europe. The Millenia name was used in North America and later adopted in Japan after the Eunos brand was phased out. Although its styling, equipment and body structure were updated, the car remained a single generation.
The Millenia had a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and sat above Mazda’s mainstream family sedans. Common versions used a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre V6, while the Millenia S and Eunos 800M featured a supercharged 2.3-litre Miller-cycle V6. This unusual engine was an early mass-production application of Miller-cycle technology and became the model’s defining technical feature.
The Millenia is known for understated styling, a quiet, well-finished cabin, smooth V6 performance and a comfort-focused character combined with composed handling. It represented Mazda’s effort to offer premium quality and distinctive engineering within its own model range.
