About Mazda CX-90
The Mazda CX-90 is a three-row midsize crossover SUV introduced for the 2024 model year. Developed primarily for North American and other international markets, it serves as Mazda’s flagship family vehicle and replaced the CX-9 in much of the brand’s range. Production is based in Japan at Mazda’s Hofu plant.
The CX-90 remains in its first generation. It uses Mazda’s Large Product Group platform, with a longitudinal engine layout and rear-biased standard all-wheel drive. This architecture gives it a more performance-focused character than many mainstream three-row crossovers while retaining practical passenger and cargo space.
Major versions include 3.3-litre turbocharged inline-six models with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a plug-in hybrid combining a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor. Output, seating layout and equipment vary by trim and market, with capacity for up to eight occupants in some versions.
Within Mazda’s SUV lineup, the CX-90 sits above the CX-5, CX-50 and two-row CX-70. It is positioned near the premium end of its class, emphasising refined styling, high-quality cabin materials, strong powertrains and responsive handling. Three-row versatility, standard all-wheel drive and electrified options define its role as Mazda’s largest and most upscale crossover.
