About Mazda CX-8
The Mazda CX-8 is a three-row crossover SUV introduced in Japan in December 2017. It was developed as a more space-efficient alternative to a traditional large SUV or minivan, combining six- or seven-seat capacity with Mazda’s passenger-car-based driving character. It initially served as the flagship of the brand’s Japanese SUV range.
The CX-8 sits above the CX-5 and, in markets that also offered the CX-9, provided a narrower, more manageable option. Its long wheelbase supports a usable third row and flexible luggage space, while Kodo styling and a refined cabin distinguish it from more utility-focused family vehicles.
The model has remained within a single generation, receiving updates to its styling, infotainment, safety equipment and chassis tuning. Depending on market and model year, versions include six-seat layouts with second-row captain’s chairs and seven-seat layouts with a bench. Engines have included 2.5-litre naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol units and a 2.2-litre diesel, paired with a six-speed automatic and front- or all-wheel drive.
Japanese production ended in 2023, and the CX-8 subsequently left some export markets. Market-specific and locally assembled versions have continued in parts of Southeast Asia. The model is known for combining three-row practicality, restrained dimensions, cabin quality and composed road manners.
