About Mazda Biante
The Mazda Biante is a mid-size, high-roof minivan introduced in Japan in July 2008 and produced until 2018. Developed as an eight-seat family vehicle, it occupied Mazda’s tall-minivan niche alongside the smaller Premacy/Mazda5 and larger MPV/Mazda8. Although designed primarily for Japan, it was also sold in selected Asian markets. The Biante remained a single-generation model, receiving updates rather than a complete redesign.
The model is known for its spacious three-row cabin, low passenger-compartment floor, wide-opening dual sliding rear doors and flexible seating. Large windows and distinctive front quarter lights created an open appearance and separated it visually from more conventional minivans. Front-wheel drive was the main configuration, while four-wheel drive was available in Japan.
Early versions used 2.0-litre or 2.3-litre petrol engines with automatic transmissions, with grades including 20CS, 20S and 23S. The more assertively styled Granz variation added a larger grille and unique exterior trim. A 2013 update introduced the 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine and SKYACTIV-DRIVE automatic to two-wheel-drive models. Overall, the Biante combined family-focused practicality with distinctive styling and an emphasis on passenger-car-like handling.
