About Mazda B-Series
The Mazda B-Series was a range of compact pickup trucks introduced with the B1500 in 1961. Developed primarily as a practical commercial vehicle, it became Mazda’s main light-duty pickup and established a strong presence in export markets. Five principal generations were produced globally through 2006, while the North American version continued through the 2009 model year.
Earlier models were largely Mazda-designed and commonly named according to engine displacement. Major versions included the B1600, B1800, B2000, B2200 and B2600, with petrol and diesel engines offered depending on the country. Buyers could choose from rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, along with standard, extended and double-cab bodies in some markets. Names such as Proceed, Bravo, Bounty and Drifter were also used regionally.
Mazda’s partnership with Ford shaped later generations. From the 1994 model year, North American B-Series trucks were Ford-built relatives of the Ranger and sold as the B2300, B2500, B3000 and B4000. International models also shared development and production links with Ford pickups. Known for manageable size, useful load-carrying ability and straightforward design, the B-Series served both work and personal-use buyers. It was eventually succeeded in many markets by the Mazda BT-50.
