About Mazda 929
The Mazda 929 was the brand’s large executive car and, for much of its life, its flagship passenger model. Introduced in export markets in the early 1970s, it was initially the international version of the Japanese-market Mazda Luce. Later examples were based on the Mazda Sentia. The name remained in use in some markets until the late 1990s.
Across several generations, the 929 developed from a conventionally styled upper-class car into a more sophisticated luxury sedan. Depending on generation and market, the range included four-door sedans, pillarless hardtops, coupes and station wagons. Most versions used a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, which distinguished the 929 from Mazda’s smaller family models.

Later generations placed greater emphasis on refinement, aerodynamic styling and equipment.
