About Maserati GranSport
The Maserati GranSport was introduced at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show as the most performance-focused member of the M138 range. Produced from 2004 to 2007, it was a sharper development of the Maserati Coupé rather than a separate clean-sheet design. The main model was a two-door, four-seat grand touring coupé styled by Italdesign.
Power came from a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre dry-sump V8 producing 400 hp. Rear-wheel drive and a six-speed Cambiocorsa automated manual transmission were standard. Compared with the regular Coupé, the GranSport received revised transmission controls, upgraded suspension, 19-inch wheels, more aerodynamic bodywork and a sportier cabin with redesigned seats. These changes placed it at the more driver-focused end of Maserati’s road-car range while retaining grand touring character.
The open-top GranSport Spyder joined the range after its debut at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show. It used a shorter, two-seat body but retained the GranSport’s V8 engine and performance emphasis. A notable special version was the 2006 MC Victory, limited to 180 numbered cars and created to mark Maserati’s 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers’ Cup win. It added MC12-inspired aerodynamic details, more direct steering, carbon-fibre racing seats and distinctive interior trim.
