About Maserati Coupé
The Maserati Coupé is a two-door, four-seat grand tourer produced from 2002 to 2007. Presented at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2002, it replaced the 3200 GT while retaining the basic Giugiaro-designed body style. Beneath the familiar shape, much of the engineering and interior was new. Its M138 model code and 4.2-litre engine also explain the unofficial “4200 GT” name often used for the car.
A naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 produced 390 hp and was paired with a rear transaxle. Buyers could choose the Coupé GT with a conventional manual gearbox or the Coupé Cambiocorsa with an electrohydraulic manual transmission and steering-wheel shift paddles. The GranSport, introduced in 2004, developed the same M138 platform into a sharper version with 400 hp, revised suspension and sportier styling.
Within Maserati’s early-2000s range, the Coupé served as the fixed-roof performance grand tourer alongside the open Spyder. It combined rear-wheel-drive V8 performance with seating for four and long-distance touring ability rather than taking the form of a stripped-out track car. The model is especially known for its restrained Italian styling, distinctive engine character and balance of comfort with engaging handling.
