About Maserati 3200 GT
The Maserati 3200 GT is a two-door, four-seat grand tourer introduced at the 1998 Paris Motor Show and produced until 2002. It marked the end of Maserati’s Biturbo era and the start of a new generation developed while the company was under Ferrari management. Within the range, it served as the brand’s high-performance luxury coupé, combining long-distance comfort with the character of a traditional Italian GT.
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign, the 3200 GT is particularly recognised for its curved profile and distinctive boomerang-shaped LED rear lights, an innovative feature on a production car at the time. Power came from a substantially revised 3.2-litre twin-turbocharged V8 related to engines used in the Shamal and Quattroporte IV. It produced 370 hp and drove the rear wheels.
Buyers could choose a six-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission. The main specialist version was the Assetto Corsa, introduced in 2001 with a lower, firmer chassis set-up and other handling-focused changes while retaining the same engine output. The 3200 GT was replaced by the outwardly similar Maserati Coupé, which adopted a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8. The model remains known for its forceful turbocharged performance, elegant cabin and important role in renewing Maserati’s grand touring range.
