About LTI
LTI, short for London Taxis International, is a British vehicle brand closely associated with the modern London black cab. The company specialised in purpose-built taxis rather than conventional passenger cars, with vehicles designed around the needs of licensed taxi drivers, fleet operators and urban passengers.
The brand is best known for the TX series, including the TX1, TXII and TX4. These models carried forward the familiar upright shape and practical layout of the London taxi while adding more modern engines, safety features and comfort compared with earlier cabs. The TX4 became one of the most recognisable LTI vehicles and remains a common reference point for the brand.
LTI vehicles were built for intensive city use. Key qualities include a tight turning circle, a high roofline, wide-opening doors, a spacious rear passenger area and wheelchair accessibility. These features helped make the vehicles suitable for dense streets, frequent stops and professional taxi service.
Although LTI was not a mass-market car maker, it held a strong position in the specialist taxi segment, especially in the United Kingdom. Its vehicles also appeared in export markets where the London taxi format had appeal. The LTI name is now mainly linked with earlier diesel taxi models, while the business later evolved into the London Taxi Company and then LEVC, which focuses on electrified urban mobility.
