About Lotus Europa S
The Lotus Europa S is a low-volume two-seat sports coupé produced at Hethel from 2006 to 2010. Known internally as Type 121, it revived the Europa name used by Lotus in the 1960s and 1970s, but was a distinct modern model based on the aluminium Lotus Small Car Platform shared with the Elise and Exige.
Lotus positioned the Europa S as a more refined, touring-oriented alternative to those models. Its fixed-roof body, leather-trimmed cabin, carpeting, airbags and improved luggage space made it better suited to longer journeys, while its rear-mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout retained the brand’s focus on handling and low weight. Power came from a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
An optional Luxury Touring Pack added more extensive leather trim and other upgraded interior details. The Europa SE followed in 2008 as the main performance variation, raising output to 225 PS and adding revised suspension, wider wheels, larger front brakes and the Luxury Touring Pack as standard.
The Europa S occupied a narrow space between the minimalist Elise and a conventional grand tourer. It is chiefly recognised for combining compact dimensions, a bonded aluminium chassis and responsive Lotus dynamics with greater comfort and everyday usability. Production remained limited, and the model was not officially sold in the United States or Canada.
