About Lotus 2-Eleven
The Lotus 2-Eleven is a lightweight, open-cockpit sports car developed primarily for track days and club-level competition. Unveiled at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, it evolved from Lotus’s earlier Circuit Car concept and was produced at Hethel from 2007 to 2010. Classified internally as Type 123, it used a stripped-back version of the aluminium platform associated with the Elise and Exige.
Its minimalist body has no conventional roof or doors, reflecting a design focused on low mass, aerodynamic performance and direct driver feedback rather than everyday practicality. The standard supercharged model combined a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual transmission. Lotus quoted 252 bhp and a weight of 670 kg, giving the car an unusually high power-to-weight ratio for its market segment.
The initial Launch Edition was offered in road-going and track-only forms, although registration eligibility and equipment differed by market. Track versions received competition-oriented seating and more aggressive aerodynamic components, while road-equipped cars added the lighting, emissions hardware and other items required for approval. Lotus also developed the rarer 2-Eleven GT4, a heavier and more powerful racing derivative.
With 356 examples of all versions recorded by Lotus, the 2-Eleven was a specialised model positioned beyond the Elise and Exige in track focus. It is known for low weight, precise handling and a close connection between road-car engineering and Lotus Motorsport programmes.
