About Lincoln Mark VIII
The Lincoln Mark VIII is a rear-wheel-drive personal luxury coupe sold for the 1993–1998 model years. Built in Wixom, Michigan, it replaced the Mark VII and became the final production model in Lincoln’s long-running Mark series. Within the brand’s range, it offered a sportier two-door alternative to the Continental and Town Car sedans.
The Mark VIII was produced as one generation, although it is commonly divided into 1993–1996 and substantially revised 1997–1998 versions. The later cars received updated exterior styling, a redesigned cabin and suspension changes. Distinctive features included concealed-style headlamps on early models, while the revised version adopted high-intensity-discharge headlights and a full-width rear lamp.
All versions used a 4.6-litre, 32-valve, dual-overhead-cam V8 with a four-speed automatic transmission. An electronically controlled air suspension helped combine a smooth ride with more responsive handling than was typical of traditional large Lincoln models.
The standard Mark VIII emphasised comfort and equipment, while the LSC version, introduced during 1995, added more power, firmer suspension tuning, a different axle ratio and sportier trim. Limited variations included the 1996 Diamond Anniversary package and the 1998 Spring Feature and Collector’s Edition cars. The model is best known for combining American personal-luxury-car proportions with advanced powertrain and chassis technology for its period.
