About Lincoln Mark VII
The Lincoln Mark VII is a rear-wheel-drive, two-door personal luxury coupe sold for the 1984–1992 model years. It replaced the Mark VI and preceded the Mark VIII. Early examples were named Continental Mark VII; from 1986, the car became the Lincoln Mark VII. Its full production run represents a single generation assembled in Wixom, Michigan.
Built on Ford’s Fox platform, the Mark VII was smaller, lighter and more aerodynamic than earlier Mark coupes. It combined a contemporary profile with traditional Lincoln details, including a formal grille and a spare-wheel-style boot-lid contour. Within the range, it served as Lincoln’s premium personal coupe and a more driver-focused counterpart to the brand’s luxury sedans.
Most versions used a 5.0-litre V8 with a four-speed automatic transmission. A rare BMW-sourced 2.4-litre turbo-diesel six-cylinder was available in 1984 and 1985. Variations included the base model, luxury-oriented Bill Blass Edition, short-lived Versace Edition and the LSC, or Luxury Sports Coupe. The LSC featured firmer suspension, sportier trim and stronger V8 performance in later years. A monochrome LSC Special Edition was also offered.
The Mark VII is known for blending American luxury with improved handling and technology. Notable equipment included four-wheel air suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, anti-lock braking on certain versions, onboard electronics and digital or analogue instruments, depending on trim.
