About Lexus HS
The Lexus HS was a front-wheel-drive premium hybrid saloon introduced in 2009. Sold only as the HS 250h, it was Lexus’s first model developed exclusively around a hybrid powertrain. Its name referred to “Harmonious Sedan”, reflecting an emphasis on efficiency, comfort and reduced environmental impact. Production took place in Japan at Toyota Motor Kyushu’s Miyata plant.
The HS had one generation and used a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. North American models were offered for the 2010–2012 model years in standard and Premium forms. The car remained available in Japan until 2018, where the range included the base model and versions such as C, I, S and L, along with several special editions.
A substantial 2013 update introduced Lexus’s spindle grille, revised styling, stronger body construction, improved sound insulation and a Sport driving mode. The HS occupied a distinctive position as a compact-to-midsize luxury saloon focused more on quietness, fuel economy and cabin usability than sporting character. It is also noted for its aerodynamic shape, driver-oriented controls and use of plant-derived plastics in parts of the interior.
