About Land Rover Discovery
The Land Rover Discovery is a full-size luxury SUV developed for family use, long-distance travel and demanding terrain. Introduced in 1989, it has evolved through five generations while retaining a strong emphasis on practicality and all-terrain ability. The current generation was unveiled in 2016 and entered production in 2017; today it is manufactured in Nitra, Slovakia.
Early models were recognised for their upright, functional styling, stepped roof and spacious cabins. The third- and fourth-generation vehicles were marketed as the LR3 and LR4 in North America, while carrying Discovery names elsewhere. The fifth generation returned to the Discovery name globally and adopted a lighter aluminium-intensive structure, smoother styling and more road-focused refinement. Engines, equipment grades and special editions vary by year and market.
Discovery is known for flexible three-row seating, substantial luggage capacity, towing ability and off-road systems such as Terrain Response. Most modern versions provide seven full-sized seats, distinguishing the model from many 5+2-seat rivals. Within the Land Rover range, it has a family-oriented role: more focused on space and versatility than the smaller Discovery Sport, while complementing the rugged Defender and the more luxury-led Range Rover models.
