About Lamborghini LM002
Lamborghini built the LM002 from 1986 to 1992 as its first production off-road vehicle. Developed from the earlier Cheetah military vehicle project, it became a road-going luxury 4x4 rather than a conventional sports car. Its front-mounted 5.2-litre V12 was related to the engine used in the Countach Quattrovalvole, creating an unusual combination of supercar power and heavy-duty construction.
The LM002 used a tubular chassis, four-wheel drive, a five-speed manual gearbox and specially developed Pirelli Scorpion tyres. Its large, angular body, high ground clearance and open rear load area gave it the character of an extreme utility vehicle. A leather-trimmed cabin and extensive personalisation options reflected Lamborghini’s luxury positioning.
Most examples followed the main LM002 specification. The LM/American, introduced for the US market in 1989, added market-specific styling and equipment details. Production remained highly limited, with 301 vehicles built, placing the model among Lamborghini’s rarest series-production vehicles.
Within the brand’s line-up, the LM002 was a dramatic departure from its low-slung coupés. It is best known for its imposing proportions, V12 performance and genuine off-road focus. Lamborghini regards it as a predecessor to the Urus and the modern high-performance luxury SUV.
