About Lamborghini Jalpa
The Lamborghini Jalpa is a two-seat, mid-engined sports car introduced at the 1981 Geneva Motor Show and produced from 1982 to 1988. Developed as an evolution of the Silhouette, it occupied the more accessible position in Lamborghini’s range beneath the V12 Countach. Its name continued the company’s association with fighting bulls.
Power came from a transversely mounted 3.5-litre, all-aluminium V8 with four camshafts, paired with a five-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. A removable roof panel gave the Jalpa a targa-style body, combining open-air driving with the compact, angular proportions associated with 1980s Lamborghini design.
The production model is generally identified as the Jalpa P350 or P350 GTS. Rather than spawning numerous derivatives, it remained a focused model. Its main visual revision arrived in 1984, when body-colour trim and round rear lamps replaced some of the earlier black exterior detailing.
Around 420 examples were sold, making the Jalpa a rare Lamborghini. It is known for being smaller, less powerful and more usable than the contemporary Countach while retaining a distinctive mid-engine layout, manual gearbox, V8 character and removable roof. Within the brand’s history, it represents the final development of Lamborghini’s early V8 sports-car line.
