About Lamborghini Diablo
The Lamborghini Diablo is a two-seat, mid-engined V12 supercar produced from 1990 to 2001. It replaced the Countach as Lamborghini’s flagship and was later succeeded by the Murciélago. Developed during a period of changing ownership, the Diablo carried the brand from the analogue supercar era into a more modern phase. Later cars incorporated updates introduced after Lamborghini joined the Audi Group in 1998. A total of 2,903 examples were built.
The original Diablo combined rear-wheel drive with a 5.7-litre naturally aspirated V12. The range later expanded to include the all-wheel-drive VT, the open-top VT Roadster and the more focused SV. Limited and higher-performance versions included the SE30, while the GT and final 6.0 models used a larger 6.0-litre V12. Competition-related derivatives such as the SV-R and GTR also demonstrated the platform’s racing potential.
Within Lamborghini’s lineage, the Diablo sits between two of the marque’s best-known V12 flagships and remains closely associated with 1990s exotic-car design. It is recognised for its low, wide proportions, dramatic scissor doors, powerful naturally aspirated engine and highly mechanical character. Its extreme styling, relative rarity and important place in Lamborghini’s development have also made it a significant collector model.
