About Lamborghini Countach
The Lamborghini Countach is a two-seat, mid-engined V12 supercar that served as the brand’s flagship for much of the 1970s and 1980s. Previewed by the LP500 prototype in 1971, the production LP400 arrived in 1974 as the successor to the Miura. Production continued until 1990, when the Diablo replaced it.
Its sharply angled wedge profile, cab-forward proportions, scissor doors and low roofline established a design language that influenced later Lamborghini models and the wider supercar market. The Countach is also known for its longitudinally mounted engine, tubular chassis and dramatic styling, although limited visibility, a confined cabin and heavy controls make early cars demanding to drive.
Major original versions include the LP400, wider LP400 S, larger-engined LP500 S or 5000 S, more powerful 5000 Quattrovalvole and the extensively revised 25th Anniversary edition. Specifications and equipment varied by production year and market, particularly where emissions and safety regulations required changes.
Lamborghini revived the name for the Countach LPI 800-4, a limited-production hybrid V12 model unveiled in 2021. Based on contemporary Lamborghini technology and restricted to 112 examples, it was conceived as a tribute rather than a direct continuation. Both generations occupy an exclusive position in the range, with the original especially valued for its rarity, cultural impact and distinctive design.
