About Kia Titan

The Kia Titan was a cab-over commercial truck introduced in South Korea in 1971. Developed during Kia’s early technical partnership with Mazda, it became Kia’s first four-wheeled truck and an important step in the company’s move from three-wheelers into larger commercial vehicles.

Designed for light- and medium-duty work, the Titan covered payload classes from about 1.25 to 2.5 tonnes. Rear-wheel drive and diesel engines were typical, while chassis configurations supported cargo beds, tankers and specialised vehicles for industrial and public-service use.

Rather than passing through clearly separated, clean-sheet generations, the Titan remained a long-running model family with regular mechanical and styling updates. The improved Super Titan arrived in 1980, followed by the Jumbo Titan in 1987. Versions differed by payload, wheelbase, body installation and engine, reflecting the varied requirements of commercial operators.

Within Kia’s range, the Titan sat above the smaller Bongo and below heavier trucks such as the Boxer. It was especially associated with manufacturing, construction, delivery and municipal work, and became a familiar presence at South Korean industrial sites. Production continued until 1997.

The Titan is mainly remembered for its straightforward cab-over layout, adaptable chassis and broad working range. Its significance lies less in luxury or advanced technology than in its practical role during the expansion of Kia’s commercial-vehicle business.
