About Kia Soul
The Kia Soul is a compact five-door crossover known for its upright, box-shaped body, distinctive styling and space-efficient cabin. Introduced in 2008 and launched in North America for the 2010 model year, it became an important part of Kia’s design-led transformation and helped strengthen the brand’s presence in the small-car market.
Three generations were produced. Each retained the tall roof, near-vertical rear and front-wheel-drive layout while adding updated platforms, technology and safety equipment. Depending on the year and market, the Soul was offered with petrol or diesel engines, manual or automatic transmissions, and trim levels ranging from basic models to sportier appearance versions. The battery-electric Soul EV joined the range in 2014 and later became the only Soul version sold in some European markets.
Positioned between a conventional hatchback and a subcompact SUV, the Soul prioritised urban manoeuvrability and interior practicality rather than off-road ability. Its high seating position, wide-opening doors and squared cabin helped provide useful passenger and cargo room within a relatively short body.
Kia ended Soul production after the 2025 model year. Across its lifespan, the model stood out in the company’s lineup for its recognisable shape, flexible interior and unconventional character.
