About Kia Sorento
The Kia Sorento is a mid-size SUV introduced in 2002. Developed as a global model, it helped Kia expand beyond smaller vehicles and establish a stronger presence in the family SUV market. Production has centred on South Korea, with regional manufacturing also playing an important role; the second-generation Sorento became the first Kia built in the United States for the North American market.
Four generations have been produced. The original Sorento used a body-on-frame structure and had a more traditional off-road character. From the second generation, it adopted unibody construction, improving cabin space, ride comfort and on-road handling. Later generations placed greater emphasis on refinement, safety technology, connectivity and efficient packaging. The fourth generation arrived in 2020 on a new mid-size SUV platform.
Depending on the market and model year, the Sorento is offered with five, six or seven seats, front- or all-wheel drive, and petrol or diesel engines. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions broadened the range in the fourth generation, while some markets offer more rugged-looking variants. Positioned among Kia’s larger family vehicles, the Sorento is known for combining three-row practicality with manageable dimensions. Its flexible interior, broad powertrain range and balance of comfort and utility have made it a core part of Kia’s SUV line-up.
