About Kia Ray
The Kia Ray is a compact, box-shaped city car developed primarily for South Korea. Introduced in 2011, it occupies a distinctive place in Kia’s small-car range, combining A-segment exterior dimensions with a tall roof and an unusually flexible cabin. It is designed for urban driving, where its short body and space-efficient layout are particularly useful.
A defining feature is the wide opening on the passenger side, created by a front-hinged front door, sliding rear door and pillarless structure. Together with foldable seating, this makes the Ray suitable for carrying passengers, bulky items or commercial loads. Its upright shape also provides generous headroom relative to its footprint.

The original Ray EV arrived early in the model’s life, and a substantially updated second-generation EV was launched in 2023.
Within Kia’s lineup, the Ray sits alongside conventional small hatchbacks but prioritises accessibility and interior volume over traditional styling. It is best known as a practical domestic-market model serving private, leisure and small-business needs.
