About Kia Pride
The Kia Pride is a front-wheel-drive B-segment car that became an important early model in Kia’s international expansion. Introduced in 1987, the original Pride was developed through cooperation with Mazda and Ford and was closely related to the first Ford Festiva and Mazda 121. Kia produced it in South Korea until 2000.
The first iteration was offered in several practical forms, including three- and five-door hatchbacks, a four-door sedan known in some markets as the Pride Beta, a five-door wagon and a small van. Most versions used compact 1.1- or 1.3-litre petrol engines. Licensed derivatives were also manufactured in Iran, where the basic design appeared in additional sedan, hatchback, wagon and pickup variations.
Kia revived the name for the New Pride in 2005 and the All-New Pride in 2011. These later cars were Korean-market versions of the Kia Rio sold elsewhere, with sedan and hatchback body styles and more modern engineering. The Pride badge therefore covers three main phases: the original 1987 model and two Rio-based successors used through 2017.
Within Kia’s range, the Pride served as an accessible small car below larger family models. It is best known for compact dimensions, straightforward construction, efficient use of interior space and a broad choice of body styles.
