About Kia Pregio
The Kia Pregio is a rear-wheel-drive light commercial van and minibus produced from 1995 to 2006. Developed in South Korea as a replacement for the Kia Besta, it was closely related to Kia’s Bongo commercial-vehicle range. Kia describes it as the first van designed and built entirely in Korea.
The Pregio used a cab-over layout to provide a spacious interior within relatively compact exterior dimensions. It was offered as a cargo van and in passenger-carrying configurations, including high-capacity minibuses. The longer Pregio Grand provided additional space and seating, while some markets received different names, such as Besta GS in Brazil and Bongo III Coach in South Korea. Diesel engines and manual transmissions were most common, although specifications varied by country and model year.
Rather than progressing through several distinct generations, the Pregio remained one core model with a series of updates. Changes during production included revised equipment, additional powertrain options and a substantial facelift introduced late in 2003.
Within Kia’s range, the Pregio served buyers needing more capacity and commercial utility than a passenger MPV could provide. It was exported across Asia, Europe and Latin America, where passenger versions were also used for public transport. The model is chiefly known for its practical, load-oriented design, flexible body choices and ability to carry comparatively large numbers of passengers.
