About Kia Picanto
The Kia Picanto is a small five-door hatchback introduced in 2004 as Kia’s entry into the A-segment city-car class. It is positioned below the Rio and larger Kia models, offering compact dimensions for urban use while retaining seating for four or five occupants. In South Korea, the closely related model is marketed as the Kia Morning.
Three generations have been produced. The second generation arrived in 2011 and was offered in both three-door and five-door forms in some markets. The third generation followed in 2017 and received major updates for the 2021 and 2024 model years. Its design was developed through cooperation between Kia’s centres in South Korea and Germany, reflecting the model’s importance in European and international markets.
Most Picanto versions use small petrol engines and front-wheel drive, with manual, automatic or automated manual transmissions depending on the year and country. Available specifications have ranged from basic urban transport to better-equipped derivatives. GT-Line models add sportier styling, while the X-Line offered crossover-inspired details and, in some markets, increased ground clearance. The Picanto is best known for easy manoeuvrability, efficient use of cabin space and relatively strong equipment availability for its size. It remains Kia’s smallest conventional passenger car in many markets and competes with other affordable city hatchbacks.
