About Kia Pamax
Kia Pamax was a medium-duty cab-over commercial truck introduced in South Korea in 2000. It appeared after Kia joined Hyundai Motor Group and reflected closer cooperation between the two manufacturers. Hyundai handled production, while Kia managed sales. The Pamax replaced the ageing Kia Trade in this part of the commercial range.
Produced as a single generation, the Pamax was intended mainly for business and fleet operations. It was sold in cargo and chassis-cab forms, supporting box bodies, wing bodies, recovery equipment and other specialist conversions. Variations included different wheelbases, cab layouts and load-deck specifications, with 2.5-tonne models among the most familiar versions.
The cab-over design provided useful load space without an excessively long footprint. Kia’s records list a 3.3-litre inline-four diesel engine, along with rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations. Contemporary versions were also noted for equipment such as larger brakes, ABS and a driver airbag, although specifications varied.
Within Kia’s line-up, the Pamax sat above smaller trucks such as the Bongo and Frontier. Its production run was relatively short, and it became Kia’s last midsize commercial vehicle of that period as the brand shifted its focus towards lighter trucks. It remains best known as a practical, Korea-focused work vehicle from the early Hyundai–Kia integration era.
