About Kia Opirus
The Kia Opirus is a large executive sedan introduced in 2003 as Kia’s flagship passenger car. Produced in South Korea until 2011, it replaced the Enterprise and represented the brand’s move further into the premium market. In North America, it was sold as the Kia Amanti from the 2004 to 2009 model years.
The Opirus was offered as a four-door, front-wheel-drive sedan with a spacious five-seat cabin. Depending on year and market, it used V6 petrol or LPG engines ranging from about 2.7 to 3.8 litres, paired with an automatic transmission. Its priorities were comfort, interior space and equipment rather than sporting handling. Notable characteristics included substantial sound insulation, a soft ride and available features such as leather upholstery, powered seats, automatic climate control and electronically controlled suspension.
Only one generation was produced, although a major facelift arrived for the 2007 model year. This update brought revised exterior styling, an updated cabin, suspension changes and newer V6 engines in some markets. Early and facelifted cars can therefore differ significantly in appearance, performance and equipment. Known for its formal, European-influenced design and value-focused luxury positioning, the Opirus served as Kia’s largest and most comfort-oriented sedan of its period before the brand’s later K-series flagship models.
