About Kia KX3
The Kia KX3 is a five-door subcompact crossover developed primarily for the Chinese market. Introduced in 2015 and built in Yancheng by Kia’s local joint venture, it occupied the lower end of the brand’s SUV range, below larger models such as the KX5. Its appeal centred on compact exterior dimensions, an elevated driving position and more versatile passenger and luggage space than a conventional small car.
The first generation shared its basic platform with the Hyundai ix25. Depending on model year and specification, it was sold with naturally aspirated or turbocharged petrol engines, manual, automatic or dual-clutch transmissions, and front- or all-wheel drive. A facelift arrived in 2016, while the KX3 EV introduced a battery-electric variation in 2018.
A second generation appeared in China in late 2019 under the KX3 Aopao name. Closely related to the Kia Seltos offered in other markets, it adopted a roomier, more modern design and a front-wheel-drive layout. This version strengthened the KX3’s position as a practical urban and family crossover, with styling and equipment aimed at buyers wanting an accessible alternative to larger SUVs. In 2023, Kia dropped the KX3 name in China and marketed the updated model as the Seltos, ending the KX3 badge after two generations.
